Working and Homeschool Part 2

The overarching message so far in this working homeschool moms summit is that you must set goals and be realistic with those goals and expectations. Those of us that run our own businesses know the importance of this, so it would make sense for it to flow over into how we manage our household and homeschool times. Another very important point to consider is to not get caught up in the comparison game.  We are homeschooling because we want our children’s learning to be as unique as them, so why would we try to mirror another family’s homeschool set-up.  Homeschooling is not a cookie-cutter approach.  Do mornings work best?  Great!  Maybe you work full-time and you need to devote your time to help your child with school in the evenings and weekends. No problem!  The best thing we can do for our kids is to show them that life is all about balance (and a bit of compromise and sacrifice).  Most importantly, learning is always happening.

A few more tips:

  • Have separate times for work and homeschool so you can put full focus on each
  • Find resources in your area to help you – learning pods, co-ops, other homeschool families
  • It’s not just about the academics but about family relationships – FAMILY FIRST
  • Look at your week or month of To-Dos and it becomes less stressful – it may not all get done in one day
